Currently 1 in 88 children is diagnosed with autism and they grow up to be 1 in 88 adults living with autism. We as parents, teachers, practitioners, and the general public are in need of some new ways of understanding autism as we face a future with an ever increasing rate of diagnosis, uncertain causes and no proven cure.

Because they view the world through a very similar lens to individuals with autism, horses offer us a new perspective that broadens our focus, from simply looking for a cure, to include a greater understanding of what it feels like to be autistic. With this increased understanding, it is easier to approach parenting, teaching or therapy with a deeper knowledge of communication and relationship from the perspective of the child or adult living with autism. We offer workshops and coaching for parents struggling with their child’s behavior and who have a desire to achieve  a deeper understanding.

“Journey Into Autism: Through the Eyes of a Horse”

This workshop is designed as an experiential portal into the perspective of a child or adult with autism. Horses and those with autism share a perspective very different from our own and the horses can give us a unique insight into what it is like to live with autism. Through dialog, human simulations, and experiential interactions with the horses we will journey into uncharted territory and attempt to reach a deeper level of understanding of the many different types of experiences those with autism struggle with every day. We will explore communication, behavior, learning, sensory issues, and many other common struggles. This workshop can benefit parents, practitioners, caretakers, educators and anyone else who desires a deeper understanding and insight about how to more effectively connect with those with autism.

parent coaching

Are you a parent facing your child’s new diagnosis? Have you been struggling with parenting or behavior issues for a while now? Do the behaviors just seem to get worse over time? Sometimes it helps to get a new perspective and some education and coaching around how to approach your child’s unique needs. I will make an on-site visit (in-home, or child care facility) to observe your child in action, talk to family, teachers and child care providers  in order to gather necessary information. Then I work directly with you to understand your child’s perspective and develop a behavior management plan to meet your family’s needs.

Parent Coaching Rates $90 an hour plus travel time if necessary. I offer a receipt for reimbursement from your insurance company for those who qualify (does not cover travel time).
