veterans pilot project
rebuilding trust
The Whatcom County Health Department is sponsoring a pilot project to determine the effectiveness of Equine Assisted Growth and Learning as a way of helping veterans returning from active duty reintegrate into civilian life.
The process of connecting with a horse mirrors the process returning veterans must go through to make supportive connections in their lives. In a safe environment this process can be broken down into comfortable steps addressing the many challenges veterans face. After making successful connections with a horse, participants can apply these skills to their human relationships.
A series of 10 individual and family sessions is available, free of charge, to a limited number of veterans who meet the income qualifications. Participants are asked to complete a survey before and after participating in the project.
